Poverty Trap

The poverty trap is a reality for those living below the poverty line throughout the world. A poverty trap is created when those living in poverty are unable to access sufficient income, decent healthcare or education to enable them to get out of it. This is invariably the result of poor social, health and education policies and/or poorly structured or inadequate welfare programmes. It may also be the result of poorly thought out foreign aid programmes that provide no capacitation or technical support to help people lift themselves out of poverty.
