Utilities Sector

According to the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) for classifying companies, the utilities sector is comprised of companies that supply electricity, gas and water; independent power producers; gas and power marketing and trading specialists; integrated energy merchants; energy traders; and companies that generate and distribute electricity using renewable sources. While many people consider telecommunications as a utility, telecoms companies are included in the GICS Communications Services sector.
