Minimum Wage
A minimum wage is a statutory minimum employers are permitted to pay workers. Minimum wages are in place throughout many parts of the world. In the UK, for example, in 2021, the minimum per hour wage depends on the age of the worker: from £8.91 for people over 23 to £4.30 for apprentices. From April 2022 minimum wages will rise to a range of £9.50 for people over 23 to £4.81 for apprentices. In countries like China and India the minimum wage can vary by province or city. Minimum wage often also refers to expectations that rates are paid at multiples for overtime, i.e. work after 8 hours per day.
