Negative Correlation
In finance, a negative, or inverse, correlation occurs when two assets move in different directions given the same set of underlying macro events. Negatively correlated assets – traditionally bonds and equities have been cited as such (although that is not a given) – are a vital component of maintaining a diversified portfolio, as they can provide natural hedges hence neutralising risk.
