Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

An organisation’s chief executive officer (CEO) is the highest ranking member of its executive management team. CEOs act as the face of their organisations vis-à-vis stakeholders, including customers, investors, government and regulators (as appropriate) and the communities in which they operate. The CEO is appointed by the board of directors and has responsibility for managing the organisation, defining and executing on corporate strategy, driving for market share gains, and optimising financial results and (for listed companies) the share price. The CEO also defines an organisation’s culture and the softer aspects of management, including social and governance factors.
