The financial crisis of 2007-2008 was a wake-up call for the financial services sector. One of the leading causes of the crisis was the lack of proper conduct and accountability within the industry. In response, the Financial Conduct Authority introduced the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR) to address these issues and improve standards of conduct. In this pathway, behavioural science and conduct expert Roger Miles and compliance and asset management expert Stephen Stokes delve deep into the SMCR. Roger will cover the reasons behind the implementation of the regime, how it operates, which roles it applies to, and the rules that must be followed. Stephen will then pick up the thread, explaining how the SMCR specifically applies to investment firms.
